Comment on The Basics of Parkour / Free Running by Kenny

I have recently recovered from a sprained knee and have just gotten myself back into free running. I have to say that resting a knee for such a long time that I can barely jump and land on it without feeling a bit worried that it might snap, puts me into a position where I should discontinue my exploration in parkour. But I had stayed in breakdancing while my knee was injured and i mostly worked on my upper body during those 8 months. I have to say that parkour is definitely a leg workout and more than anything else it relies on leg strength because I have an uneasy time with making my moves look fluent now and days. It is still very fun and it makes my heart beat to the point where I think it might jump out of my chest. The hardest part of it is conquering your fear.

Thanks for the question Roger, and I hope I understood it correctly.

The general rule is that the weight should be heavy enough so that you can perform 8 to 12 reps with perfect form. If the weight is too heavy, go lighter. If you can do more than 12 with perfect form, go heavier.

This applies to all body types that are striving to pack on muscle.

I have a question about the Ectomorph Routine, you mention doing 8 to 10 reps, is the weight supposed to be real heavy as in traditional ectomorph workouts.

[...] A powerful decision making process is the force field analysis (FFA) system. It helps you identify the forces propelling you towards a decision and the forces resisting change. It is a decision making process opposite of thin slicing (which we talked about earlier) because factors both for and against are consciously deliberated in the force field. [...]

[...] I get some great reader comments, and this comment from Mastapsin regarding my story on fighting depression really got me amped. I quote: I do an activity called Parkour or Freerunning, which includes running and outdoor gymnastics like climbing, jumping, vaulting, rolling, etc. Once I saw a documentary called Jump London / Jump Britain which featured a teenager who conquered his depression through Parkour, simply by getting outside, running and doing some Parkour moves. Not only does it “pop” your brain’s endorphins, but once you master a move, it gives you a great sense of accomplishment. [...]

Hi, I totally agree. I do an activity called Parkour or Freerunning, which includes running and outdoor gymnastics like climbing, jumping, vaulting, rolling, etc. Once I saw a documentary called Jump London / Jump Britain which featured a teenager who conquered his depression through Parkour, simply by getting outside, running and doing some Parkour moves. Not only does it "pop" your brain's endorphines, but once you master a move, it gives you a great sense of accomplishment.

It seems that depression leads to inactivity, which again leads back to depression. So this vicious cycle must somehow be broken. Intense exercise, whether alone, or better yet, with a group, can fight off those nasty blues.

I agree Rob. Kids nowadays have a hard time constructing a complete sentence, and their spelling... some are so far off even a word processor's spellcheck can't save them. Granted, I do think generation Y have their own special strengths and abilities, but they shouldn't forsake the english language. Textual storytelling will always be important to humans.

Thanks for the comment Rob!
