In Dr Wayne Dyer’s latest book The Power of Intention, he describes what could be a kindness bomb of sorts. He writes that scientific studies have shown simple acts of kindness can actually boost serotonin levels in the brain - serotonin being the naturally produced neurochemical responsible for well-being and even physical wellness. In fact, kindness doesn’t just manufacture more serotonin in the brain of the doer, but the research showed an increase of serotonin in the recipient of the kind act as well.
The impact doesn’t end there. Even “unsuspecting bystanders” who were in the wake of the event and happened to witnessed the kind act enjoyed the same sweet hit of happiness. Says Dyer:
“Research has shown that a simple act of kindness directed towards another improves the functioning of the immune system and stimulates the production of serotonin in both the recipient of kindness and the person extending kindness. Even more amazing is that persons observing the act of kindness have similar beneficial results. Imagine this! Kindness extended, received or observed beneficially impacts the physical health and feeling of everyone involved.”
The study would suggests that anyone can produce widespread happiness and well-being by simply being kind. And God knows the world could use that brand of “radical activism” right about now.
