You’ve heard the phrase “burn body fat” or “melt midsection fat” used about a million times cubed, but why? Does the body actually somehow melt body fat, as it were a 7-11 Slurpee under the ultraviolet brilliance of the noon day sun? Regrettably no. While visualizing fat flowing from your inner thighs like volcano magma is encouraging imagery while kicking it on the treadmill, it’s not accurate. However, the body does indirectly unlock fatty acids through a process called thermogenesis - internally generated heat caused by the production of energy. The hotter the body temperature gets, the more calories you burn.

The human body’s normal temperature is 98.6 F. It will rise when you’re fighting off a fever or a street thug, but the body is pretty consistent at keeping it’s core temp. But you don’t want to hear that. You want the hacks on how to increase your body temperature naturally and burn more fat faster. Without effort no doubt. And you probably expect to be able to eat whatever you want and still lose weight.

Everything I’ve mentioned can be accomplished with some simple dietary tweaks. For instance, one way you can start a thermic jump (without any fighting) is by eating six or more meals a day. The breakdown and digestion of food and it’s conversion into energy is a heat inducing process, so it makes sense that eating more frequently would stimulate thermogenesis more often. Just be sure to keep each meal within the 300 calorie range and within a three hour intervals. And one more thing. Foods high in protein and fibre increase thermogenesis best, so include plenty of each..

Another way of cranking the dial on your body’s furnace is by increasing caloric intake above daily requirements. Yes, this means partying on your favorite foods! I know it sounds counter-intuitive to fat loss, but if you’re regular eating regimen is carbohydrate restrictive, allowing a high carb day once a week can do wonders.

Finally, you can step-up thermogenesis by simply dialling into the precise caloric requirements of your basal metabolism plus energy expenditures of the day’s activities. You could mathematically figure out what this sweet spot is by estimating your daily activity level and planning your meals accordingly, but it’s more sane to just be conscious of what you eat and why you’re eating it. Then account for the calories you eat with an appropriate activity level before eating again. Listen to your body. Be intuitive about it.

    Hi! Me again :-)

    Liked the post today, i knew about the thermogenesis and how to increase your body temp etc but I did learn something new today, I didn’t even think about the fact that when you are carrying less body fat your body is less insulated and needs to fire up to stay at that core temperature. Awesome.
